Kylie Mayo Block: 2 2/11/11 Colombian Exchange… Good or Bad? Colombian exchange has impacted our lives for the better! The Colombian exchange has given our world many goods that make life so much better. Foods, animals, material for clothes and in the new world we now have slaves. Between 1492 when Columbus went to find new lands to 1870 up to 12-14 million slaves were forced into slavery. This was great for us Europeans in the new world simply because there are other people to do the work that the owners don’t want or need to do. Disease came along with the exchange. This was horrible for the new natives but for us Europeans we have ways to cure the problems. Weapons are the best part of the exchange. There are now better ways to protect the land Europe owns by power and force. Guns and canons are the best out of all of them because they get the enemy farther away. Spices and land are what royalty love. This means more money and more people to pay for land. Not only is the money factor a great part of the exchange but land gives us more power and we look stronger as well. The Columbian exchange had given the world of Europe a new way to look at life and ways to use other things that the earth gives. Even though we care more about money and power. The ships that have been made are large and can be at sea of months. The ships hold slaves and other goods that are needed for everyday life.
